In its commitment to innovation and business growth, the manufacturer of the Latvian cosmetics brand Dzintars - H.A.Brieger - has obtained the ISO 13485 - Medical Devices Quality Management System certification. This certification confirms the company’s ability to develop and manufacture medical products. This milestone opens new opportunities for the development of professional products and strengthens H.A.Brieger’s competitiveness on a global scale.
A Strategic Step in Professional Product Development
Anastasija Udalova, co-owner and CEO of H.A.Brieger, emphasizes: "It has always been important for us to leverage our team’s expertise and accumulated experience to create effective and functional products. With the ISO 13485:2016 certification, we are taking the next logical step - expanding our scope to develop new categories of professional products for use both in medical institutions and at home”.
The certification process involved an in-depth company audit, assessing H.A.Brieger’s technical infrastructure, knowledge level, and quality management system to ensure compliance with medical device manufacturing requirements.
"This process was a challenge for our quality and production teams, who once again demonstrated their professionalism and expertise. The certification proves that we are not only capable of producing high-quality cosmetic products but also developing medical products that meet strict industry standards - whether it be toothpaste designed to address dental issues or dermatological creams," adds Udalova.
Meanwhile, H.A.Brieger’s Head of Quality and Product Development, Aleksandrs Gurkovskis, highlights: "This certification strengthens our facility’s ability to integrate Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) principles, optimizing formulation development and production processes while minimizing potential pharmacological and allergic risks for end-users. This is a significant step forward, confirming our technological capabilities and opening doors to regulated medical product markets, including the EU, the Middle East, and Asia”.

The ISO 13485:2016 certification enables H.A.Brieger to develop and manufacture an expanding range of medical-grade products, strengthening the company’s position in both the Baltic region and international markets. Soon, the company plans to launch a new professional product category under the Dzintars brand, offering Latvian-made professional body and oral care products for both local consumers and export markets.
About H.A.Brieger
The origins of the Dzintars cosmetics brand date back to 1849, when Heinrich Adolph Brieger founded a soap and perfumery factory in Riga. Over three generations, the company grew into one of Latvia’s largest cosmetics manufacturers. The company’s new owners acquired the production facility with the vision of reviving Brieger’s approach - developing products carefully and thoughtfully to suit today’s dynamic world. As a result, the company and manufacturing facility have been renamed H.A.Brieger, while the Dzintars brand name has been retained for its cosmetic products.
The largest shareholder of H.A.Brieger is the Estonian industrial manufacturing company Skinest Group, which operates in ten countries and employs over 1,400 people. Skinest Group owns 60% of H.A.Brieger, while the remaining 40% is owned by the company’s CEO, Anastasija Udalova. H.A.Brieger has obtained quality management and good manufacturing practice certifications, including ISO 9001, GMP (ISO 22716), and ISO 13485:2016.
